Hong Kong Marine Protection Alliance

香港海洋保育平台

Over the weekend the HK Marine Protection Alliance (HKMPA) joined forces with staff at the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Dept (AFCD) to hold a coastal clean-up at Sharp Island. Sharp Island is home to a highly biodiverse coral community and has become popular with visitors as it is readily accessible by boat from Sai Kung town. The AFCD has proposed creating a marine park there next summer, a move strongly supported by the HKMPA.

The HKMPA was well represented by Li Po Chun College, Civic Exchange, The Nature Conservancy, Encompass HK, Cornerstone Strategies, and also Living Seas HK and WWF, who shared information on biodiversity and ecotourism etiquette with passers-by. It was a hot day, but everyone enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate in removing trash, and to get to know each other better.
